Question: For whom and where does the obligation to wear a medical face mask apply?

Answer: There is an obligation to wear a medical face mask:

  • When using public transportation and its associated facilities, such as bus stops, train stations, airports, and ferry terminals (new: only FFP2 mask),
  • when visiting a place of sale in enclosed spaces and in its outdoor areas such as parking lots, in other enclosed spaces that are accessible to the public or in the context of visiting or customer traffic, as well as when visiting weekly markets in accordance with Section 67 of the Industrial Code, and
  • in workplaces and business premises and inside buildings of public service institutions and authorities, when entering traffic areas, such as entrance areas, stairwells, corridors and elevators, as well as when staying in sanitary areas and waiting rooms.
The extension of the obligation to wear a medical face masks applies in the area of the main station (station forecourt between the main station building, the northern bypass of the station forecourt, the southern bypass to the main post office building, the western stop area of Friedrich-Ebert-Strasse - between the northern and southern bypass), city center (within the area between Lloydstraße, Columbusstraße and Deichstraße), Hafenstraße (between Lloydstraße and Lange Straße), Grashoffstraße (between Schillerstraße and Georgstraße) and Georgstraße (between An der Mühle and Bismarckstraße).

This obligation is valid until the 23.05.2021.

In addition, passengers in motor vehicles are required to wear an FFP2 mask (with the exception of persons of the same households), also it is obligatory to wear an FFP2 mask in the medical sector, in patient care facilities, institutions for integration assistance, and in outpatient care.
