"Adler von Krautsand" - Sailing ship
A traditional ship
The "Galeon Andalucia" is a faithful replica of a galleon. This mostly three-masted ship type was developed in the 16th century by the Spaniards and soon adopted and developed by almost all European lake nations. Galleons were the epitome of a fast, very agile warship with great seaworthiness. Thus they became the ideal occupation for expeditions to explore new trade routes between Europe and Southeast Asia or America. Due to its absolutely superior military qualities, the galleon quickly became the dominant warship of its time. Since there were no useful construction drawings for the replica of such a ship, the construction project "Galeon Andalucia" also included the collection of all information, measurements and other important details necessary for the construction. Safety and innovation also played an important role in the construction of the ship. The entire hull and decks were made of fibreglass layers and then covered with wood. The construction phase lasted 17 months and employed more than 150 workers.
The "Galeon Andalucia" was a guest in Bremerhaven for the first time at the Seaside City Festival 2018.
