Historical Museum Bremerhaven

Time travel at the coast

Situated on the river Geeste, the award-winning Historisches Museum Bremerhaven presents history, art and culture of Bremerhaven and its region. In the exhibition halls of 3300sqm, visitors can make an exciting journey through time that reaches from the earliest traces of human beings in the Elbe-Weser-triangle to a cinema from the 1950ies.

A complete historical shipyard with a shipbuilding place and a shipyard workers’ house, scenes from dock labour, a walk-in harbor pub, a fishmonger’s shop or a machine hall with operable steam and refrigeration machines from ice production are just a few examples of the manifold living and working environment at the museum.

Life-sized figures created by artists recall the past in historical scenes. Numerous films, audio-visual-shows, audio programmes, computer databases and computer-films teach fascinating facts in varied ways. There is a free activity sheet for children at the front desk.

Besides the permanent exhibition, the Historisches Museum Bremerhaven also presents special exhibitions on a regular basis.
