Zoo at the Sea with the North Sea Aquarium

Experience underwater worlds of a special kind at the Zoo at the Sea in Bremerhaven with North Sea Aquarium.

The Zoo at the Sea, located directly on the dike, leaves lasting impressions through up-close animal encounters. Through floor-to-ceiling glass panes, zoo enthusiasts are "up close and personal" and face-to-face with the animals. Valuable information about the animals and their habitats helps to understand why preserving biodiversity is so important.

The tour of the zoo, with a total of 1,100 animals in 120 species, begins with the chimpanzee troop and continues past the zoo's favorites, the polar bear twins Anna and Elsa, seals, penguins & Co. The otter family scurries through the enclosure with seemingly inexhaustible energy, while the cougars loll relaxed in their seats in front of the glass.

Spectacular North Sea in the North Sea Aquarium: Nine aquariums show the underwater world of hunting cat sharks, fierce sea wolves, graceful seahorses or the octopus with its play of colors.

Raising awareness of issues of this time, such as habitat loss and biodiversity conservation, is an important task of the zoo. Guided tours, events as well as zoo school lessons are used as a way to impart knowledge.

Children "Ahoy!" At the zoo's adventure playground, an overturned bow of what appears to be a stranded ship serves as a hutch for the rabbits, while the elevated platform of the cab provides a path to the keas' enclosure. Other small play ideas, such as a telescope, a memory game or a slide, round out the play experience.

While the little ones explore the adventure playground, the grown-ups review their newly acquired impressions with a view of the "sea", perhaps over a cup of coffee. Variety for people and animals is guaranteed here, not least through the daily public feedings.
