The ship was built in 1913 by J. H. Jacobs in Moorrege. It was one of the last Elbewers built by the yard and bore the construction number 80. It was named by its first owner, Claus Haack, after its first home port on Krautsand. As a cargo sailer, it transported apples and building materials along the German coasts and to the Alte Land.

In 1924, the cargo sailer with the two folding masts received an engine. Later, the hull was lengthened by more than double, and the former ewer was used as a barge. In 1978, the ship was restored to its original length in Hamburg, remeasured in 1985 and sailed as a private ship in the North Sea and Baltic Sea. In 2005 it was extensively restored and refitted. After a change of ownership in 2021, the "Adler von Krautsand" is now moored in the New Harbor of Bremerhaven.
