"Großherzogin Elisabeth" - Sailing ship

A sailing training ship on the way in the North Sea and Baltic Sea

„Großherzogin Elisabeth" - so named after the full ship of the German Training Ship Association built in 1901 - is the sixth name of this schooner, which was built as "San Antonio" and after an eventful history was last used as "Ariadne".

The Elsfleth shipowner Horst-Werner Janßen, president of the newly founded training ship association in Elsfleth, bought the schooner in 1982 for the district of Wesermarsch (Germany), which operates the schooner as part of the seaman's school after thorough reconstruction.

Since then, the ship has been operating as a sailing training ship in the North Sea and Baltic Sea, in winter a floating boarding school for young sailors.

In addition to her service for the maritime faculty of the University of Applied Sciences Oldenburg in Elsfleth (Germany), she is on the way with guests on weekends and during the summer holidays the "Großherzogin Elisabeth" takes part in international regattas of Sail Training international (STI).
