Memorial Plaque Baltimore Pier

The connection between Bremerhaven and Baltimore go back to the beginning of Bremer Haven (the Bremen harbor).

On September 12th, 1830 the full-rigger "Draper" was the first ship to enter the Old Harbor. The "Draper" came from Baltimore, located in the US Federal State Maryland. Since then this city has played a special role in the relation between Bremerhaven and America.

Baltimore was an important destination for Bremerhaven, as the former largest emigration port in Europe. In the beginning the city of New York was the main harbor the North German Lloyd sailed to during the years of emigration and later service and passages to Baltimore were included.
With the christening of the quay under the name Baltimore Pier in the year 2000 the Seaside City commemorates the close relationship since the founding of Bremerhaven.
