All dogs must be kept on a leash on the dikes, in the dike foreland and on the tidal flats. In principle, dogs must be kept and handled in such a way that they do not pose a threat to public safety and order.

- In Citizen's park Geestemünde, accessible from Johann-Wichels-Weg.
- Green space Auesee, accessible from Wurster Straße and Heilsberger Straße.
- Schiffdorfer Chaussee heading out of town before the motorway bridge on the left, also accessible via Ludwig-Börne-Straße opposite number 11.

Dogs are still allowed to run freely in the dog runs during the breeding and sowing season from 15 March to 15 July.

Unless the leash requirement has been expressly waived for certain areas, dogs must be kept on a leash in the following areas:

(a) in the area of the city centre enclosed by the following streets, roads and squares:
Am Strom, H.-H.- Meier-Straße, Willy-Brandt-Platz, Lohmannstraße (all named places including the Weser dyke with outer dyke and dyke forecourt), Schleusenstraße, Wiener Straße, Pestalozzistraße between Wiener Straße and Hafenstraße, Geestheller Damm including Am Geestebogen (Kapitänsviertel), Geestewanderweg, Deichstraße between Wencke-Dock and Karlsburg, Columbusstraße between Am Alten Hafen and Van-Ronzelen-Straße up to the water level indicator.

b) in the area of the Citizen's park Geestemünde, which includes the following areas:
Mozartstraße between Frühlingsstraße and Auf der Kogge, Adolf-Hoff-Weg, In den Nedderwiesen, Walter-Delius-Straße between the entrance to the C. v. Ossietzky school centre and Hartwigstraße, and Frühlingstraße between Bismarckstraße and Mozartstraße.

c) in the area of the Fitness and Wellness Park of Speckenbüttel, which includes the following areas:
Wurster Straße between Parkstraße and Siebenbergensweg, Siebenbergensweg, Am Parkbahnhof and Parkstraße between Am Parkbahnhof and Wurster Straße.

d) in the Surheide-Süd / Ahnthammsmoor landscape conservation area

e) in the Reinkenheide forest area

f) in the recreation area between Nordholzweg, Johann-Wichels-Weg, Gagelstraße and Postbrookstraße

g) in Lehe town park and Saarpark Lehe

h) in the green space Holzhafen Geestemünde

i) in the municipal cemeteries

j) in the Leherheide public utility forest.

It is forbidden to walk or let dogs run in children's playgrounds, ball fields, play parks and schoolyards.
