The Tide Barrage in Bremerhaven connects the river Geeste with the Bederkesa-Geeste Canal.
Along the waterway Elbe-Weser from Bremerhaven to Otterndorf. It connects the River Elbe and the River Weser and consists of the Hadelner Canal, the Aue, the Bederkesa-Geeste-Canal and the River Geeste. Today professional ships rarely use the waterway Elbe-Weser. Now it is more widely used by sport boats and recreational crafts. It has a total length of 61,5 kilometers. Coming from Bremerhaven you first pass through the tide barrage Bremerhaven located on the River Geeste and then turn into the Bederkesa-Geeste-Canal. The canal can only be traveled by boats with a draught of 1,5 meters.
Due to the numerous bridges (approx. passage height 2,70 meters) sailboats must fold the mast. Hourly passage, two hours prior to and two hours after high tide (free of charge).
