Tide Barrage
The Tide Barrage in Bremerhaven connects the river Geeste with the Bederkesa-Geeste Canal.
Along the waterway Elbe-Weser from Bremerhaven to Otterndorf. It connects the River Elbe and the River Weser and consists of the Hadelner Canal, the Aue, the Bederkesa-Geeste-Canal and the River Geeste. Today professional ships rarely use the waterway Elbe-Weser. Now it is more widely used by sport boats and recreational crafts. It has a total length of 61,5 kilometers. Coming from Bremerhaven you first pass through the tide barrage Bremerhaven located on the River Geeste and then turn into the Bederkesa-Geeste-Canal. The canal can only be traveled by boats with a draught of 1,5 meters.
Due to the numerous bridges (approx. passage height 2,70 meters) sailboats must fold the mast.
