Shipyard Crane
Contemporary witness - the Rickmers shipyard crane
In 1834, the shipbuilder Clasen Rickmers founded the Rickmers shipyard, which has been located on the Geeste River near today's Employment Agency since 1857. The shipyard developed into a reputable shipbuilding company in Europe and one of the leading ones in the world. The order situation was so good that Rickmers created its own fleet. Until 1886 only wooden ships were built. The heirs of the company founder then switched to modern iron shipbuilding. The shipyard crane and the shipyard gate still bear witness to the glorious period of the shipyard's history.
The 35.5 meter high tower crane was built in 1956 by the company Hans Seebeck Maschinenbau-Eisenbahn GmbH in Bremerhaven-Lehe. Its lifting capacity is up to 20 tons. As a contemporary witness of the past era of shipbuilding in Bremerhaven, the shipyard crane, the Rickmers shipyard closed in 1986, was repaired in 2003.
