Memorial Plaque Lock Old Harbor

The founding of Bremer-Haven was laid on July 12, 1828 at the Geeste outer harbor, the former entrance to the Old Harbor.

Bremen built the harbor to be a secure anchorage for all people who used the Weser for shipping by the skilled builder Jacob Johann van Ronzelen and with this he created the beginning of today's Seaside City. At the Geeste outer harbor, the former entrance to the Old Harbor there are two replicas of the historic memorial plaques. They commemorate the laying of the cornerstone on the Northwest corner of the former lock on July 12, 1828 as well as the opening on September 12,1830.
