Memorial Carl Schurz
Monument opposite the former US-Hospital
Born in 1829, Carl Schurz emigrated to the United States, where he worked as a politician in the second half of the 19th century. From 1877 to 1881 he was Secretary of the Interior of the United States under President Rutherford B. Hayes. He was the first native German to become a member of the Senate of the United States. In his honor, the monument was erected in the former residential area of the American Armed Forces opposite the U.S. hospital.
