Container Look-Out Platform

The container observation tower was opened to the public in 1979. It consists of a supporting framework with twelve containers. A lookout platform (about 78 square metres and 12.5 metres high) allows visitors a close look at the everyday activities of a large container terminal or the passing of ships through the Nordschleuse lock. To ensure smooth operations, but also for security reasons, the general public is normally not allowed to enter the container terminal. For this reason, the observation tower, financed by more than 30 private donors, gives a unique impression of a bustling international container terminal.
