Lale-Andersen Lantern

The sentimental song "Lili Marleen" (composed in 1939 and broadcast by radio from 1942 on) was popular among both German and allied soldiers and brought fame to Lale Andersen (1905 to 1972), who was born in Lehe. The song is set under a lantern at the gates of a barracks. To pay homage to this, an old lantern was refurbished by the German Navy and installed on Linzer Strasse in January 1981, in memory of Lale Andersen and her song. Since the end of 2016, the lantern is standing near the birthplace, at the corner of Lutherstraße / Hafenstraße.
