Chain Memorial
Memory of 300 years of emigration to the USA
Somewhat inconspicuously the chain monument stands directly at the Weser dyke next to the semaphore. The half-timbered pedestal was erected on October 6th, 1983, on the occasion of the 300th anniversary of the immigration of Germans to America and commemorates the beginning of the German emigration movement. Via Bremerhaven, several million Europeans embarked on their journey into an uncertain future in the "New World".
