From the New Harbor in Bremerhaven, which was opened in 1852 almost 1.2 million people left for the New World by 1890. In addition to the New Harbor, the Old Harbor, the Emperor's Harbor and the Columbus Quay were the departure points for a total of 7.2 million emigrants who left Bremerhaven for the New World.
Located on the historic New Harbor, the award-winning German Emigration Center allows you to experience this unforgettable era hands-on. Follow in the footsteps of the many emigrants, accompanied by true life stories, amidst authentic recreations in the award-winning theme museum and afterwards stroll throughout the city and the harbors and explore Bremerhaven's many witnesses of this unforgettable era.

The Emigrate Memorial of 1998.
This bronze monument is located direct on the Seebäderkaje, Willy-Brandt-Platz.
The memorial statue in front of the Columbus Center symbolizes the manifold ties between Bremerhaven and the USA.
The connection between Bremerhaven and Baltimore go back to the beginning of Bremer Haven (the Bremen harbor).
Elvis Presley (1935-1977), known as "The King of Rock 'n Roll", was an early rock musician who set the style and was generally considered a leading youth idol in the late 1950s.
