Castle of Willows Fitness and Wellness Park of Speckenbüttel
According to the design of the architect Marcel Kalberers, a castle was built out of huge pasture bundles. A green, lively and growing castle of willow trees, which invites you to relax in the Fitness and Wellness Park of Speckenbüttel.
It took approximately 4 weeks to build the castle of willows in the Fitness and Wellness Park of Speckenbüttel as a project of the Bremerhaven horticulture department. About 350 m³ willow trunks and branches, 1000 m tubular steel struts, 5000 m coconut rope and 1000 m polyester wire were used. The living edifice has 6 lateral cupolas and a central dome measuring more than 12 m. The castle of willows is an inviting place to relax, dream and meditate. A place where creative activities are encouraged: music, theatre, play and dance. The Bremerhaven castle of willows is an important contribution to the Fitness and Wellness Park of Speckenbüttel.
After a two-year renovation phase, the astle of willows was reopened in March 2017 as one of Germany's largest viable structures. Damaged willows was removed and the now unsuitable scaffolding was expanded. A new, galvanized, stable riser was built.
