Schippertage Bremerhaven from 18th to 20th August 2017
Traditional mud flat sail ships from Germany and the Netherlands are headed for the second time towards Bremerhaven!
Aaken, Bojer, Ewer, Galioten, Kuffen and Tjalken were the most important way of transportation in the first decades of the 20th century. They were mostly used at the German and Dutch coasts. Today, the freighters with a flat keel and chunky bow are a special class of traditional ships. A handful of flat-bottomed ships can always be found in Bremerhaven, but for the “Schippertage” additional ships from the Netherlands and East Frisia will arrive. A joint run into port into the Old Harbor is planned for Friday around 3 pm and a highlight for all ship-lovers.
Furthermore there will be a maritime program on Saturday and Sunday: craftsman will take you on a journey back in time with their historical work. Shanty Choirs will perform live on stage. You’ll also have the chance to have a little chit-chat with the skippers, while enjoying a nice cup of coffee.
On both days, food and beverages will be available around the Old Harbor.
The event is held in cooperation with the Schiffergilde Bremerhaven e.V. and the German Maritime Museum – Leibniz Institute for German Maritime History.
