"Wal" - Steam ice breaker

Is a technical feature due to its triple expanding steam engine.

Power and assertiveness are the qualities of the steam icebreaker "Wal". Until 1990, the steam ship, built in 1938 in Stettin, was always on the move on the Kiel Canal when ice threatened to block the important shipping route.
When the Federal Ministry of Transport decommissioned its last steamboat, Bremerhaven's shipping enthusiasts took over the icebreaker and restored it with painstaking attention to detail. These included the triple expansion steam engine, which is a special technical feature. The interior has also been carefully renovated. Today the special atmosphere of the steamboat trip can be experienced again.

The "Wal" is located all year round in the New Harbour in Bremerhaven.
