"Greif" - Sailing ship

Built and commissioned in 1951

The "Greif" is a sailing training ship owned by the University and Hanseatic City of Greifswald and the Förderverein Rahsegler GREIF  Association. The 41 meter long brigantine (schooner brig) was built in Warnemünde in 1951. She was the only deep-sea sailing ship of the former GDR and operated until 1990 as a sailing training ship "Wilhelm Pieck", the then president of the workers and farmers state. Today she is still in service as a sailing training ship and serves the promotion of young people through maritime training. During the SAIL Bremerhaven 2020 the "Greif" will be used as a charter ship.
