A beautiful second mast schooner
"Urania" - Sailing ship
The "Urania" is a sail training ship
The „Urania“ was built in 1928 as the schooner yacht „Tromp“. Ten years later the Royal Marine of the Netherlands took over the ship and used it as a training-ship. After World War II, which the “Urania” spent in Germany, it was brought back to the Netherlands. Refurbished, upgraded and rigged as a ketch. Since then, the “Urania” successfully takes part in regattas. Its spinnaker in the national colors of the Netherlands is visible from afar and shows clearly that the ketch is a training-ship.
After a general overhaul in 2003/2004 the Dutch Marine uses the “Urania” as an ambassador at maritime events. The “Urania” will take part as a guest at the Sail Bremerhaven for the fourth time.
