A beautiful second mast schooner
"Quarantäne" - Motor ship
Former "floating ambulance"
The QUARANTÄNE (Quarantine) thankfully never lived up to its name. The swimming isolation ward for sick seamen was never used. While back in the day it was never really on duty, now during its “retirement” the QUARANTÄNE has quite the revival: like all the other ships of the Schifffahrts-Compagnie Bremerhaven you can charter the ship for trips.
The only notable chance is the color of the ship, which changed from grey to a dark blue. Like all the other ships of the fleet, the 19,50 meter long swimming isolation ward was lovingly restored.
For over 40 years the QUARANTÄNE, which was built in Bardenfleth, was towed at the west-quay of the Kaiserhafen. Every time a seaman got sick on board, had an accident and even to check health documents of new crew members – the port doctor was always there. All in all, the QUARANTÄNE is a testimony of the varied history of the Bremerhavener harbors, which is maintained of the Schiffahrts-Compagnie.
