"Pogoria" - Sailing ship
Modern school sailing ship
The PROGORIA was the first ship of a new type, designed by the Polish draftsman Zygmunt Choren. The flat rear is what the barquentines “Iksra” (Poland), “Kaliakra” (Bulgaria), “Oceania” (Poland) and “Frederyk Chopin” (Poland) have in common. During regattas, the PROGORIA is always ahead of others. During the journey to the Antarctic Ocean in 1980/81, the ship proved itself quite weather resistant. Trainees and young Polish people learn to work as a team on the ship. In cooperation with the Italian STA, the Polish barquentine overwinters in the Mediterranean Sea with its base port in Genoa since 1999.
