The Bremerhaven Dock GmbH was founded in 1986 as an independent shipyard operating company by the parent company Seebeckwerft AG. Another four Bremerhaven entrepreneurs joined as shareholders. The insolvency of Schichau Seebeck Shipyard Ltd in 1996, the operation was in part transferred to a separate operating ship repair yard. The BREDO began operating in 1996 with three floating docks at the site of the former repair shop of Schichau Seebeckwerft AG.
The BREDO has become one of the leading shipyards for ship repair and conversion. Worth highlighting are various ship extensions of fishing vessels as the "JAN MARIA" and chemical tankers as the "WESERSTERN" but also conversions of passenger ships and the completion of new ships, the last being the pilot tender "ELBE".
The BREDO has an extensive and long-standing customer base. An average of 250 jobs per year is processed. Besides the steel repairs to the hull, the renovation of facilities and equipment and corrosion protection work all kinds of mechanical engineering works are performed. In addition, repairs are carried out by the technical staff of the shipyard worldwide.
Today BREDO employs 100 salaried employees at the plant in the southern fishing port. There are also about 200 employees from the surrounding companies that are employed continuously by BREDO. The qualifications range from skilled workers and masters to technicians, engineers and commercial experts.
Furthermore, BREDO is a member of "puu - partnerschaft umwelt unternehmen", an organisation set up by the State of Bremen for companies that voluntary obligate themselves to even higher environmental protection targets.
In order to optimize processes and achieve the best possible results in the field of quality management we work in accordance to DIN EN ISO 9001:2008 and correspondingly we are certified by the Germanischer Lloyd.
