"Alexander von Humboldt II" - Bark
Also called a green lady
In the beginning of the 20th century the WAPPEN VON IHLOW was built in Groningen. It was one of the first ships which was built with an iron hull. Predecessor were usually built out of wood. Building the hull with iron made a more precise design possible, because iron is easier to form than wood.
Since 1980 the owner of the WHAPPEN OF IHLOW is the community of Ihlow and was used for teens as a recreation room. At that point, it wasn’t fit to sail. After the founding of the booster club “ Wappen von Ihlow”, it was made possible to do the needed refurbishments. Since 1995 the WAPPEN VON IHLOW is a constant periodic guest for the SAIL in Bremerhaven.
