The Art Association Bremerhaven is one of the oldest cultural institutions in Bremerhaven and the lower Weser region.

With the Kunsthalle, the Kunstverein Bremerhaven von 1886 e.V. has had its own venue for temporary exhibitions since 1964. The building was designed by architect Gerhard Müller-Menckens (1917-2007). In 1986, an additional floor was added according to the plans of architects Silke and Jürgen Grube. The exhibition spaces for temporary exhibitions are located on the first floor, comprising a graphic cabinet, vestibule, and the main hall, totaling approximately 220 square meters. On the ground floor of the Kunsthalle, there is the bistro "Caspar David & Co." and the "Cabinet for Contemporary Art" as an independent exhibition space. Many nationally and internationally recognized artists have exhibited in Bremerhaven early in their careers.
Since October 7, 2007, the Kunstverein Bremerhaven von 1886 e.V. has owned its own art museum.
