Lale-Andersen-Lantern
In remembrance of the Bremerhaven born singer of the song „Lili Marleen".
With the sentimental hit „Lili Marleen" (1939, broadcasted after 1942), which was most popular by the German soldiers as well as by the allied forces, the singer Lale Andersen (1905-1972) who came from Lehe became famous. The song begins with: „In front of the barracks, in front of the big gate, there is a lantern...". As a homage to Lale Andersen and above all for her song an old street lantern from the German Navy in Bremerhaven was restored in self-work and put up on the Linzer Street in January 1981. The lantern will be erected in 2015 in the Luther Straße 3 in front of the birthplace.
The popular singer was married to the native Bremerhavener Paul-Ernst Wilke, who was a landscape artist. His atelier can still be seen near the radar tower.
